The Glengarry bonnet or hat was first worn by Glengarry Fencibles troops in 1794. Alexander Ranaldson Macdonell of Glengarry Fencibles troops starts wearing the Glengarry bonnet in 1794. In that period, the clan Macdonell of Glengarry was also discovered. This clan is still popular in Scotland, not only Macdonell of the Glengarry family but other clan lovers wear the Scottish stuff of this clan. The civilians or Fencible have worn the hat in different ways.  There was not a rule and regulation of wearing the Glengarry bonnet.

Between 1868 and 1897, the British soldiers also wore the Glengarry hat. Later it was replaced by Field Service Cap which is different from the Scottish cap. In 1937, according to the Dress Regulations, there was government rule in the whole of the United Kingdom that the British army wears the field Service Cap every time on their duties.

Some clan black watch wears plain blue Glengarry with trews. The blue Glengarry is currently used in the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Method Of Wearing

Before 1945, the way of wearing the Glengarry hat was different but after the end of the Second World War, the correct method of wearing the hat is still being used. Prior to 1945, the hat was worn at a steep angle in such as the way the cap badge was higher on the head and the right side of the cap worn low which touched the ear. After the second world war, the Glengarry hat is now worn at the head level.
